An Innovative Eye Care History
The history of our practice dates back to 1968. That was the year in which Dr. David P. Mohr opened the first ophthalmology practice in Carroll County. He was dedicated to providing leading-edge solutions for a whole host of vision problems along with the highly personalized care that his patients would truly appreciate. It didn’t take long for Dr. Mohr to become the trusted source of many area doctors for their patients’ vision needs. In 1986, Dr. Wayne Barber joined him in his practice. Dr. Mohr retired in 1998, but our team continued to diversify with the addition of Dr. Robert Friedman in 2004. Soon after, our name was changed to Center for Total Eye Care.
Our practice has come from humble beginnings, starting with one ophthalmologist and growing into a team of four eye care professionals, two convenient office locations in Carroll County, MD, and a support staff of over 25, including several board-certified opticians. Today, Drs. Barber, Friedman, Young and Eaton still follow the same patient-focused practice philosophy that was set forth by Dr. Mohr nearly 50 years ago.
First to Introduce Many Vision Care Advances
Over the years, the Center for Total Eye Care has set the standard of vision throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. For starters, we were the first practice in the area to introduce vision correction surgery, both radial keratotomy (RK) and LASIK. We were the first to offer the modern phacoemulsification procedure, which enables cataracts to be removed through tiny incisions, as well as “no-stitch” cataract surgery with topical anesthesia. Additionally, we recently adopted laser cataract surgery!
And the Firsts Continue...
First practice in the area with the state-of-the-art IOL Master system. First to introduce selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) to the area. First to utilize the OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) in evaluation of glaucoma and retinal conditions. First to offer a full-service optical boutique as part of an ophthalmology practice.
