What is LASIK?
If you’ve been longing to reduce—or even eliminate—your dependence on glasses and contact lenses, you’ve probably looked into refractive surgery. LASIK is a modern, state-of-the-art refractive procedure designed to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (uneven focusing of light). LASIK involves using cool pulses of light to prepare the cornea for surgery. The cornea is then reshaped using a cool ultra-violet laser. The whole procedure generally takes around 15 minutes per eye. LASIK's laser-improved precision allows the surgeon to tailor the procedure to the shape of your individual eye for personalized, satisfying results.
Through our personalized pre- and post-operative care and our partnership with LasikPlus—one of the area's best refractive surgery centers—we lead patients towards their best possible vision.
Are you a candidate for LASIK?
More and more people are excellent candidates for the procedure, thanks to the latest advancements in LASIK technology. When you schedule a LASIK evaluation with any of our Center for Total Eye Care doctors, you recieve a thorough eye examination. Your exam results will determine if LASIK is the best way to correct your vision.
In general, good candidates are:
- At least 18 years of age
- In good general health and have had a stable vision prescription for at least one year
- Not currently pregnant and have not been nursing in the last 6 months
If you are not a candidate for LASIK, your doctor will discuss other more appropriate vision correction options with you.
